Medical Physics Releases Special Issue on Datasets Hosted in NCI's Cancer Imaging Archive
Datasets Hosted in NCI's Cancer Imaging Archive
The March Virtual Issue of Medical Physics, "Datasets Hosted in NCI's Cancer Imaging Archive" has been released. These "Medical Physics Dataset Articles" (MPDAs) describe datasets in detail and focus on the research opportunities they provide. This special issue includes MPDAs for seven datasets that were published on TCIA, and an editorial on the importance of sharing data to enable reproducibility and re-use.

NCI's Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology
New NCI Clinical Trial data is now available on TCIA. "CALGB 50303" is a randomized phase 3 trial that studied rituximab with 2 different combination chemotherapy regimens to compare efficacy in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. This imaging sub-study was supported by NCI and the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health Biomarkers Consortium along with contributions made to a public/private partnership by seven pharmaceutical companies. Images were collected across multiple participating centers according to a highly standardized protocol prepared with the assistance of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance (QIBA). Select individual patient-level data from this trial can be requested from the NCTN/NCORP Data Archive.

NCI's Children’s Oncology Group
TCIA has published its first pediatric dataset sponsored by NCI's Children’s Oncology Group (COG)! The "AHEP0731" trial studies the side effects and how well risk-based therapy works in treating younger patients with newly diagnosed liver cancer. This multicentre, phase 3 trial was designed to test a risk-based treatment approach for children with hepatoblastoma, to diminish toxicity in low-risk patients, improve survival in intermediate-risk patients, and identify new agents that may be used in high-risk and recurrent patients. Select individual patient-level data from this trial can be requested from the NCTN/NCORP Data Archive.
