During the visit, the Ambassador will meet with the director of the Center, get acquainted with the history and results of cooperation with American donor and partner organizations, and also visit the Lugar Center. The Ambassador also plans to meet with the Center's partner organization, headed by the Walter Reed Military Research Institute (WRAIR) in Georgia, and attend a graduation ceremony for two Georgian students from San Diego State University, affiliated with WRAIR, and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. . The event will take place in the large conference hall of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health. Brief history of the event: WRAIR has been successfully supporting and conducting internships for undergraduate students at the aforementioned universities at the Lugar Center for the third year in a row. According to the memorandum, Walter Reed Institute, IV. Tbilisi State University named after Javakhishvili and San Diego State University are offering a 3-week internship program in clinical microbiological research for undergraduate students as part of a joint program. Students are given a unique opportunity to learn and explore modern approaches and methods. During these 3 weeks, under the guidance of an experienced scientific expert from the Walter Reed Institute, students work on a specific project/research and at the end of the internship make a presentation in which they present the research results. We will be glad if your schedule allows you to attend the ambassador's visit, as well as welcome and attend the graduation ceremony of the student internship.
