President's Message
Dear iHEA Members and Colleagues,

I would like to update you on various initiatives that we are developing to strengthen health economics research and education capacities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).  
First, we are designing a one-on-one research advice program, targeting early-career researchers in LMICs affiliated with institutions where they have limited access to support from senior colleagues. These early-career researchers will be paired with senior researchers with mentorship experience and expertise in health policy issues relevant to the LMIC context. Together, they will develop publishable research projects, for which they will jointly identify and specify a research question, review relevant literature, develop testable hypotheses, assemble relevant data, identify and carry out appropriate analytical methods, and interpret their findings in writing.  
Awards
Adam Wagstaff Award for Outstanding Research on the Economics of Healthcare Financing and Delivery in LMICs

We are pleased to announce the establishment of an award in memory of Adam Wagstaff, proposed by his colleagues and friends and to be funded through 'Friends of Adam' crowd-funding. The iHEA Board has supported the establishment of this award, which will be hosted by iHEA and associated with the biennial iHEA congress. The prize will be awarded to the best iHEA congress paper on the economics of healthcare financing or delivery in a LMIC/LMICs that is written and presented by a researcher from a LMIC. This award reflects Adam's lifelong commitment to improving healthcare financing and delivery and promoting equity in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and its purpose is to continue this legacy. It also contributes to iHEA's efforts to promote excellence in health economics globally and its commitment to internationalization through greater inclusion of LMIC researchers.

SIG News
Announcing the Mental Health Economics (MHE) Special Interest Group
One in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives according to the World Health Organisation. At any given time roughly 450 million people suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill health and disability worldwide. Yet, mental health has received little attention, in particular within the study of economics. The Mental Health Economics Special Interest Group  sets out to connect researchers and encourage discussion and debate to further our collective understanding of all aspects of health economic research on mental health.
Researchers working on the health economic inquiry of mental health and mental health care gather in the SIG to discuss research on a variety of topics and methodologies including cost of illness, outcomes research, economic evaluation, budget impact analyses, econometric methods, policy analysis and health technology assessment. The aim of the SIG is to build a network of health economists worldwide to further our shared understanding of the above, leading to an expanded body of research on the causes and consequences of poor mental health as well as that of the mental health care system. We propose to do so by providing a broad set of opportunities for SIG members to actively engage and collaborate with others in the field.
