Dear colleagues,

This is to inform you that effective today, Tuesday, 17 March, the Palais the Nations in Geneva which is the home of UNECE is closed. All UNECE staff is required to work from home until further notice.

We will be working through emails, video and teleconferencing to ensure continuation of the work. The wikis will be also maintained to the extent possible. We will inform you when the situation will change.

In the meantime:

• we just issued a Policy Brief #23 on Gender equality in ageing societies (http://www.unece.org/population/ageing/policybriefs.html) and had a brief news item about it (http://www.unece.org/info/media/news/population/2020/unece-issues-recommendations-on-gender-equality-in-ageing-societies/doc.html). It was prepared by the secretariat under the initiative and with the support of France. From the secretariat side, Lisa Warth was the main author with a help from a number of interns.
• the side event planned for the 11^th session of the Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing in New York has been cancelled - the OEWGA meeting is not taking place on 6-9 April as earlier planned. We would like to thank Martin Amberger (Germany), Alexis Rinckenbach (France) and Christoph Angster (Austria) for their efforts to prepare a side event.
• we have received a number of promising candidates for consultancy on mainstreaming ageing guidelines and will be proceeding with the interviews.

We will be contacting the Bureau members regarding the timing and format of the spring Bureau meeting earlier planned for 27-28 April. But for the time being, preparations for it and November WGA meeting and Policy seminar will continue in the normal way.
