2019 Roux Prize
Nomination Deadline
There's still time to
nominate an outstanding colleague
for the Roux prize.

Deadline: January 31, 2019

Nominees may come from anywhere in the world and could include staff in government agencies, researchers at academic institutions, representatives from charitable organizations, or health providers working in communities.

The only requirement is that they have used disease burden evidence to improve health and can show evidence of the impact made at the local, national, or global level. The winner will be announced at an event in fall 2019.

For more information, please visit rouxprize.org.

The Roux Prize was launched in 2013 to recognize individuals or groups, and it was founded by philanthropists David and Barbara Roux. It is awarded annually by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME).
2018 Roux Prize Winner:
Dr. Cynthia Maung

Dr. Cynthia Maung, a Burmese physician and Director of a clinic in Thailand, won the Roux Prize in 2018 for using health data to improve the lives of refugees, migrant workers, and internally displaced people along the Burmese-Thai border. Maung, a refugee herself, established the Mae Tao Clinic in 1989 with the help of other Burmese physicians who fled to the city of Mae Sot, Thailand, to escape civil unrest in Burma. Maung collaborated with volunteers and received funding to develop a health information system that today is used throughout Burma and Thailand. The system has increased the quality of data and care for her clients, many of whom are stateless and, therefore, often overlooked in national statistical surveys. You can view past winners here.
2019 GBD Technical Workshop
Save the date!
GBD Technical Workshop
May 14–18, 2019
Negroponte Resort, Greece

The GBD Technical Workshop is a great learning opportunity for researchers, academic leaders, policymakers, and individuals working at non-governmental organizations, foundations, country offices of health statistics, and national and multinational health organizations.

This workshop aims to help introductory level learners of the GBD develop mastery and greater fluency in GBD methods, tools, and data. It provides both a breadth and depth of exploration and hands-on learning about key aspects of the GBD study, including its analytical methods, data sources, visualization tools, and policy implications. Additionally, the workshop cultivates connections, knowledge sharing, discourse, and debate with an audience of engaged practitioners and collaborators. An important prerequisite of the workshop is completing the GBD online training, which is included in registration for the workshop.

GBD Technical Workshop:
