Advising Policymakers on GBD:
A Norwegian Case Study

Featuring
Dr. Simon Øverland
Director, Centre for Disease, Norwegian Institute of Public Health

Dr. Ann Kristin Knudsen
Senior Researcher, Centre for Disease Burden. Norwegian Institute of Public Health

In Norway, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) is advising policymakers on GBD. As a result, Norwegian policymakers are now using GBD to guide decision-making at national and regional levels. Also, NIPH is partnering with IHME to use Norway's vast data resources to improve GBD estimates.

Join us to hear from Dr. Simon Øverland, Director of the Centre for Disease at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and a professor at the University of Bergen, and Dr. Ann Kristin Knudsen, Senior Researcher in the Department of Health Promotion at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. Drs. Øverland and Knudsen will discuss how Norway uses GBD data to inform policies and the role that NIPH has played in facilitating evidence-based policymaking. They will also highlight lessons learned and future plans.

Dr. Simon Øverland is Director of the Centre for Disease at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. Previously, he was the Director for Research and Health Analysis in mental health and addictions at the Institute. Both roles involve policy work and linking research to policy. Øverland is also professor at the University of Bergen, with roles in research, supervision and teaching in research methods, epidemiology and public health.

Dr. Ann Kristin Skrindo Knudsen is a Senior Researcher at the Centre for Disease Burden at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. She is a trained clinical psychologist, with a PhD in psychiatric epidemiology and sickness absence research. She has been lead author on several reports in Norwegian using results from GBD, and is currently leading the work of writing out a scientific paper on disease burden in the Nordic countries.
