Guidelines on Mainstreaming Ageing – Zero draft for review and inputs

Dear National Focal Points on Ageing, dear colleagues,

I am happy to share with you the ‘zero draft’ of the Guidelines on Mainstreaming Ageing.

The draft was developed by a consultant – Ms. Pytrik Oosterhof -  in close collaboration with the Task Force on Mainstreaming Ageing and the UNECE Population Unit. It was informed by 22 country notes on mainstreaming ageing prepared by many of you last year in which current approaches to ageing-related policies in UNECE member States were shared.

The draft guidelines that we are sharing today encourage the development of a strategic framework for mainstreaming ageing to underpin ageing-related policies in UNECE member States.

We are contacting you now to seek your feedback on this initial draft to ensure that the final guidelines will be as relevant and useful as possible to support mainstreaming ageing in the region.

In addition to your general feedback, we are looking forward to hearing from you:

  1. on which aspects of the mainstreaming process you would like to see more detailed guidance and examples and if you encouter challenges in mainstreaming ageing that are not addressed;
  2. details on your experience on and approach to the different aspect of mainstreaming ageing that the guidelines cover. The zero draft includes a number of country examples drawn from the country notes that illustrate different aspects mainstreaming. We would like to include more examples in the next revision of the draft to further reflect the diversity of approaches in the region.

Please send us your comments and inputs by 11 September 2020 to unece.ageing@un.org.

A revised draft of the guidelines will be shared ahead of the November meeting of the Working Group on Ageing, after which they will be finalized.

We look forward to hearing from you and wish you a pleasant summer.

Vitalija
