Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to share with you a preliminary version of the paper, "Global, regional, and national levels of neonatal, infant, and under-5 all-cause and cause-specific mortality, 1990–2019: findings from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019,” produced using results from GBD 2019. This research generated annual estimates of neonatal and child all-cause and cause-specific mortality, including the first estimates of under-5 all-cause mortality disaggregated into more granular age groups. We are also pleased to be able to share results of a novel approach to quantifying preventable neonatal and child mortality using stochastic frontier analysis. We welcome your input on all aspects of the work and most especially on the presentation and interpretation of these new insights. We aim to submit this publication to The Lancet.
