Upcoming funding opportunities related to COVID-19
Following the last edition focusing on "Europe fights back against COVID-19", we would like to provide you with early intelligence about upcoming funding opportunities to manage the crisis
and limit the impact of the pandemic.
The "ERAvsCOVID"
Action Plan outlines 10 specific actions, two of the action lines are particularly of interest to the EIP on AHA community in terms of upcoming funding opportunities:
- Action 3 (New funding for innovative and rapid health-related approaches to respond to coronavirus), the European Commission is releasing
€50 million from the Horizon 2020 research budget to help the manufacturing sector repurpose production lines faster, and is preparing a call worth €20 million dedicated exclusively to switching existing lines over to the
manufacture of medical equipment, vaccines and diagnostics. A further €30 million will be dedicated to
digital innovation hubs and artificial intelligence for manufacturing, to speed up the digitisation of industrial production. The calls are expected to be launched this week.
- Action 4 (Increasing support to innovative companies), The European Innovation Council (EIC) will fund up to €150M the best start-ups
and SMEs with Coronavirus relevant innovations. The Commission will also award special Seals
of Excellence to high quality coronavirus relevant applications that cannot be funded with this €150 million in order to support their financing from other sources. Companies selected for EIC support will be announced in late May.
The European
Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) will launch support in the form of financing and technical assistance to help highly innovative ventures and accelerate their growth. A second strand of the initiative in pandemic response projects will
provide backing for the development of new products and services that help the management and control of COVID-19. The
EIT's eight Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) will be issuing calls in the coming weeks.
EUREKA is
also publishing a new call on "Solutions for the Next Human High-Impact Pandemic" in the coming days.
