2. Update on health related HLPF Events
(1) Event on health accountability (Monday, 13 July at 7:45AM-9:00AM (EDT))
Please find attached invitation to the virtual launch event of the 2020 Report of the UN Secretary-General’s Independent Accountability Panel (IAP) for Every Woman Every Child (EWEC) entitled “From
Page to Action: Accountability for the Furthest Left Behind in COVID-19 & Beyond”. This virtual event held on Monday, 13 July at 7:45AM-9:00AM EDT during the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF 2020), is co-hosted
by the Governments of Japan, South Africa and Georgia, respectively, and co-organized by the EWEC Secretariat, IAP, the International Health Partnership for UHC 2030 (UHC2030) and the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH). President
of South Africa, President of JICA, ED of UNFPA, DG of WHO are among the speakers.
(2) Event on health financing for preparedness (Monday, 13 July at 12:30
- 14:00 (EDT))
Please find attached VNR Lab Session 12 on 'Financing health systems to strengthen preparedness for future shocks' to
be held from 12:30 - 14:00 (EDT) on Monday, 13 July 2020.
This VNR lab, co-organized by FSDO/DESA, WHO and UHC2030 will provide a platform for participants to reflect on the importance of financing essential public services such as healthcare in
the context of COVID-19, and as a means of advancing Agenda 2030. Experts from WHO, World Bank Group, Ghana, Japan as well as CSO and private sector are among the speakers.

4. Planned SG Policy Brief on COVID-19 and UHC
We have been in close communication with SG Office on the issue of COVID-19 and UHC. In this connection, Deputy Secretary General announced yesterday during the UHC event that SG will issue
a Policy Brief on COVID-19 and UHC as part of SG’s initiative to highlight relevant issues in relation to COVID-19. This will be prepared in collaboration with WHO and relevant UN agencies. As discussed yesterday, should this be materialized, we intend to
issue a joint statement to support such brief. We will update with any developments on this matter.
Finally, please allow me to note that I myself, as a focal point of my delegation and co-chairs, will be leaving New York for capital next week. My successor, Dr. KITA Yosuke yosuke.kita@mofa.go.jp,
is already here in New York so please allow me to introduce him as a new focal point in close collaboration with other focal points of co-chairs (Eka from Georgia ekipiani@mfa.gov.ge;
and Pornrawe from Thailand po.poenateetai@mfa.mail.go.th).
