TAKE A BREAK WITH US
Take a break, have some quality sleep

There is some truth in the old saying, “Getting up on the right side of the bed.” It has nothing to do with which side of the bed you roll out of, but sleeping can lead to good mood. And really, it makes sense. If you sleep well, you wake up feeling rested.

In light of the recent World Sleep Day*, let’s look at the importance of sleep a little closer.

When we don't get enough sleep, a whole lot of things start happening with our body and mind, and it doesn't take a doctor to notice that. Think about a day after a night of poor sleep, and you will know exactly what we mean. The mind is not being itself, we have trouble focusing, our productivity is far from desired, and from the moment we open our eyes we cannot stop thinking (and searching for) food.

Most adults need 7-8 hours of good quality sleep on a regular schedule each night to feel rested in the morning. Depending on life habits and pace, for some this routine sounds like a fairy-tale, while for others it is already a routine. But getting enough rest isn’t only about the total hours of sleep – it is also important to get good quality sleep. It helps you stay well and maintain a healthy weight, lowers the risks of several serious health problems, reduces stress, and makes you perform better and think clearer. Besides, if you don't get up all grumpy, you tend to get along with people better, and you bring good spirit to your surroundings:-)

Good sleep is important also for various aspects of brain function. It affects the hormones that regulate appetite. Good sleep can maximize problem-solving skills and enhance memory. Poor sleep has been shown to impair brain function. Getting enough sleep enhances athletic performance and immune function, while sleep loss reduces social interaction skills.

For a good night sleep, avoid afternoon caffeine, relax by taking a bath, and keep your sleeping room cool - not too warm.

We will be back with more breaks soon.

*World Sleep Day is held the Friday before Spring Equinox of each year.
