Dear Eka and Ivane -

Please find attached our Vaccine Marketplace update, which I’m sharing with you on a more restricted basis given confidential nature of some of the information.  Some highlights:

  1. Canada approved 2 versions of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine – one from AstraZeneca and one from the Serum Institute of India.
  2. The US FDA advisory panel voted unanimously to recommend Johnson and Johnson’s vaccine be granted emergency use approval by the FDA.
  3. Ghana became the first country in the world to receive COVID-19 shots through COVAX when they received 600,000 doses of the Serum Institute’s Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.
  4. Novavax announced a deal with GAVI to supply 1.1bn doses to COVAX. This deal now makes COVAX the largest purchaser of vaccines, with arrangements in place for 3.56bn doses (surpassing the USA’s 3.36bn doses).

In late January, a news article broke showing the then calendar of approvals for the WHO. In that list the WHO had slated J&J for May/June. Note J&J submitted their application to the WHO a couple of weeks ago. It is unclear, given the approval in the USA, if that timetable will be advanced.

In terms of vaccinations;  more than 218 million doses (Last week: 186 million) have been administered across 99 countries (Last week: 82 countries), according to data collected by Bloomberg. The latest rate was roughly 6.14 million doses a day (Last week: 6.34 million doses a day) .

Thank you and kind regards,

Sebastian
