Dear Colleagues,

Please, see attached the chart of the possible organizational structure of the National Blood Safety System in Georgia for your review and recommendations. Based on the recommendations and guidelines I tried to unite all stakeholders and their possible responsibilities.

With best regards,

Keti

  Dear colleagues,

Thanks everybody  for the  questions and   to Keti Shermadini for the  answers to them.
My question and kind request to the experts and also to Georgian WG members would be the following:

Considering that Georgia has not yet had any experience with running a haemovigilance system or any institution responsible for the full scope of  haemovigilance functions , please maybe we could focus on such estimations:

1. What would be the exact scope of work and what  kind of resources would be necessary in Georgia  for establishing  and operating a national  haemovigilance system -  what kind of expert,  medical or professional input -  exactly which   professionals, what kind of  relevant supporting clinical or  research or medical units , etc.
Maybe try to help us  figure out  approximately   how many professionals and of which qualification we would need for running such task (Taking into consideration that there is a population of 3700000 and there are currently 100 000 transfusions in Georgia).

Please take into account that currently Georgia  doesn't  have the Institute of Transfusiology  (We had The Institute of Heamatology and Transfusiology, but it was privatized and disbanded since 1990-ies)  and there is a challenge with the expert resources  in the field of transfusion,  with  laboratories, reference actions, etc,   except for the epidemiological surveilance of blood donors , which is prformed by the NCDC.

After this I think it will be easier to define  the responsible bodies and their functions

Best Regards

Babilina
