Dear Mrs Gabunia,
please let me express my gratitude from GIZ to you, that you take the time to inform us in this detail. I am well aware that you have other priorities right now. We will put your information to good use in the form that we can now take more informed decisions how long our foreign staff can stay in Georgia. Our staff is very committed to further support our Georgian partners and we actually are impressed by the timely measures put in place by the Government of Georgia.
As for your further information, we are also still having staff actually seconded to Georgia which is however held up in Germany. Most of them now refrain from coming back as we want to follow the recommendations of the Georgian Government. However, two of our staff will arrive today with Flydubai at 15:50. The reason being that they have their families here. We have consulted closely with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NCDC (Amiran Gamkhrelidze) on this matter and will comply with all regulations – both have been tested negative for the virus and can provide a PCR Certificate, both have filled out the form for self-isolation and will stay in self isolation for 14 days.
In this regard, I would like to ask one more favour from you – as we still can not be sure how the situation at the airport will play out, would you be able to provide a contact of MoH staff who will be at the airport at the time of arrival so we could get in contact if needed?
Yours sincerely

Dear Giorgi
Thanks for your e-mail and reaching me out with these questions. I fully understand your interest in hospital readiness and capacity for COVID-19 response. Please be kindly informed that at this stage the following hospitals are fully mobilized to manage exclusively COVID 19 cases
Total number of beds at selected facilities is 558 with 135 ventilators (plus 3 for neonatal care)
In addition the ministry will mobilize up to 3000 beds exclusively for COVID management with potential expansion to additional hospitals as needed (In total there are over 10000 acute care beds in the country)
In total there are over 1800 functional ventilators in all health care facilities across the country. Around 60% of these ventilators are currently occupied by other patients.
Lugar’s center and 3 additional lab sites are currently doing PCR testing. Further expansion is anticipated.
This is in brief, I will provide a formal response over the next couple of days with additional details.
Should you have additional questions or concerns please let me know.
