Dear All, I am attaching our updated treatment guidelines and also some documents on PPE wear and donning/doffing. We are happy to discuss the treatment guidelines if have any questions. Key caveat is these treatment guidelines are interim and will likely be updated as we learn more and are not based on rigorous scientific trial data. Russell

Subject: Specimen collection training help at GradyHello all,
I am emailing to see if anyone would be interested in helping on the in-patient side at Grady with specimen collection. Jane, Francois, Marcos and he two ID consult teams have done a phenomenal job in holding training sessions (in addition to the "see one, swab next" approach) many residents, RT (for intubated patients) and attendings from ED, IM, Hospital Med, MICU and MH ID. Most of the patients are being swabbed in the ED if they come in as PUIs, with a small portion of PUI's not getting a sample for some reason in the ED (initially refused, transported etc) and the remaining becoming a PUI later in the admission (teams have been helping as more of them trained)
Nursing has not been part of this for various reasons, but think we may have finally broken trough with Nursing leadership. As you all know, during normal times, they are usually the ones collecting NP specimens for Flu PCR testing so it make sense to have them involved too.
If you are interested, there are two things you could help with:
- Being available during any period of time M-F during 9am-5pm to help with specimen collection if there is no one on the team is trained
- Holding brief 15-20 min teaching sessions with housestaff, attendings and hospitalist that can occur during the middle of the day and will be particularly important to have once teams switch over on 3/31 (I can coordinate with Chief residents getting a room and spreading the word)
We would of course "train" you on Grady's procedure for collection and am attaching the SOP for reference.
I know most of you are doing other volunteer work, so if not possible, we all understand! If you know of others who may be interested, please pass along.
Jane and Francois - please feel free to add anything I may have left out.
Gracias!
Paulina
