Subject: Save the Date: Virtual Consultation with EURO focal points on the update of the WHO Comprehensive (Global) Mental Health Action Plan

Save the Date: 6th March - 12:00 pm (CET), “Virtual Consultation – Update of WHO Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan”

Background Information

In 2019 the Seventy-second World Health Assembly (WHA) confirmed the objectives of the action plan and extended the implementation period to 2030, thereby ensuring alignment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. At this link you can find the Comprehensive mental health action plan 2013–2020 and its appendices.

The Seventy-second assembly also requested the WHO Director-General to propose updates to the appendices of WHO’s comprehensive mental health action plan 2013–2020 as appropriate, in consultation with Member States, taking into account the views of other stakeholders, and ensuring that the action plans remain based on scientific evidence for the achievement of previous commitments, including Sustainable Development Goal target 3.4 and other related goals and targets. See: WHA decision A72/76 2019

The two appendices to be updated are:

Appendix 1 - Indicators for measuring progress towards defined targets of the comprehensive mental health action plan 2013-2020

Appendix 2 - Options for the implementation of the comprehensive mental health action plan 2013-2020

WHO is inviting representatives of Member States to an online consultation to seek their inputs on these appendices. We are therefore contacting you as designated national focal points in EURO. Please see below for details on how to join a webinar that will explain and initiate this online consultation, organized by the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse at WHO Headquarters Office in collaboration with the mental health programme of the WHO Regional Office for Europe.

The background document to guide the consultation process will be circulated a week prior to the meeting.

We hope you would be able to attend the WebEx session / or nominate an alternate.

Best regards, Dan and Elena
