Dear Tamar,
Sorry for disturbing during the weekend, but it is about a quite urgent issue…
I was contacted by the WHO Representative in Armenia, with the request to facilitate, to the extent possible, any potential assistance from the Georgian Government to Armenia in response to COVID-19 crisis.
The situation is getting critical there and the Armenian Government is ready to accept any assistance from Georgia.
I copy also Dr Amiran, as they make reference to Dr Amiran’s recent public statement regarding Georgia’s readiness to support Armenia.
However, my understanding is the most stringent needs in Armenia are related to ICU capacities. They have about 200 patients in need of hospitalization in ICU who can’t be hospitalized because of the lack of capacities.
They also don’t have enough ICU specialists to treat critical patients. So, one possible way of assistance would be to send to Armenia a team of clinicians from Georgia, with experience in treating critical cases.
I am sure there are bi-lateral discussions about this between Georgian and Armenia Governments and key institutions, and maybe also decisions are already taken on the support to be provided.
Just to let you know that our office is ready to get involved and contribute in various ways, if need.
With best regards,
Silviu
