Subject: [EXT] RE: Insulin donation & need in GEO

Dear Silviu

I’ve asked Regulatory Agency and SSA on donation needs and feasibility. SSA has some concerns on this. Please see below.

1. Human Insulin (100 UI/ml vial) Protaphane ® (long-acting insulin) - number of vials requested: - This formulation has never been used in Georgia, It is difficult to predict whether or not physicians will prescribe it in regular practice.  The donated drug may remain underutilized.

2. Human Insulin (100 UI/ml vial) Actrapid ® (fast-acting insulin) - number of vials requested: This is actively used, 3000 vials amounts to 10 days stock.

3. Human Insulin (100 UI/ml vial) Mixtard 30 ® (mix-acting insulin) - number of vials requested: This formulation has never been used in Georgia, It is difficult to predict whether or not physicians will prescribe it in regular practice.  The donated drug may remain underutilized.

4. Glucagen Hypokit ® (glucagon for injection 1mg/ml) - number of kits requested: Usually used for under 18th beneficiaries. Difficult to predict the need as used during hypoglycemia. The program provides it to newly diagnosed patients until glucose level is stabilized. Would be good to receive it via donation if the drug’s expiration date exceeds 12 months.

Based on this feedback, we would appreciate to consider item 2 human insulin and item 4 Glucagen Kypokit for this donation if possible.

With kind regards

Tamar

Dear Tamar,

I got another reminder about Insulin donation…

Is there no need, or you just need more time?

Thank you,

Silviu

Dear Silviu,

I hope you are well. Do you have any answer regarding the insulin donation ? I am anxious that if GEO don’t reply they will miss the opportunity. Most of the fifty countries contacted have answered already many asking more than what is available if fairly divided among all countries.

Please keep us updated.

Warmly,

Marilys
