Dear Tamar,

We are under pressure from donors’ community to share the lists of estimated needs in commodities, as most of them are ready to start procurement and delivery through their own and international channels.

They asked for a meeting on Friday and they expect me to give them concrete estimates…

Can we share these lists with donors?

And also with NCDC?

Thank you and best regards,

Silviu

Dear Tamar,

You can find attached the total needs estimations.

In one file we have the estimations for IPC and ICU equipment and in the second one – the estimations for laboratory supplies.

For the time being we kept Abkhazia separately, so that you have a clear idea of the needs there.

But probably, when we share broader with donors and development partners we merge them – whatever the ministry decides, both options have their advantages and disadvantages...

Methodologies used for calculation of the three categories of goods differ: for IPC and ICU equipment needs the worst case scenario was used in order to estimate the number of masks, gowns, gloves and the similar that are needed by Georgia in order to respond to the outbreak until it ends (presumption of 50% of the population being infected, with 19% of these requiring hospitalization and 6% intensive care). For laboratory supplies the epidemiological forecasting tool for influenza was used in order to estimate the needs for the next 1-2 months. The tool does not allow forecasting beyond this time period, since the need of testing depends greatly on various factors that will vary with time. It is fully acknowledged that none of the methodologies are perfect and accurate considering the extremely short span of the novel coronavirus outbreak in the country.

Please, have a look at your earlier convenience and let me know whether we can share this broader with the donor community and in what form.

I would like also to share this with NCDC, especially for their quick revision of the laboratory component.

Thank you and looking forward to your feedback.

With best regards,

Silviu

Dear Silviu

Many thanks! I’ll take some time to discuss with colleagues and will get back to you later today.

Looking forward to receiving your estimates on supplies.

Dear Tamar,

As discussed, attached is what we are suggesting to buy under the Regional EU proposal.

If you think that something is not so relevant or that other things are more stringently needed and not in the list, just let me know and we’ll adjust.

But we have to stay within the limit of 3 million.

With best regards,

Silviu

P.S. I will send you soon the full list of estimated needs in supplies for Georgia.
