Dear Tamar,

There is a possibility to get a six-month donation of freshly produced insulin from Novo Nordisk, for countries whose health systems/supplies are disrupted by COVID. They also offer to deliver directly to health facilities.

The donation is managed by the NCD programme in WHO Headquarters (HQ), under the existing long-term agreement with Novo Nordisk. HQ have prepared a concept note to describe the offer - attached.

I was asked to check the following with the Georgian health authorities:

  1. How relevant this donation would be for the country’s context
  2. Where at country level the insulin is expected to be delivered/distributed (central hospital, other HC facilities/implementing partners)
  3. Please indicate the number of kits requested
    1. Human Insulin (100 UI/ml vial) Protaphane ® (long-acting insulin)
    2. Human Insulin (100 UI/ml vial) Actrapid ® (fast-acting insulin)
    3. Human Insulin (100 UI/ml vial) Mixtard 30 ® (mix-acting insulin)
    4. Glucagen Hypokit ® (glucagon for injection 1mg/ml) -
  4. Confirm Products are part of the national EML and national protocols
  5. Comments on how needs have been estimated
  6. Products is part of the last national quantification (2021-2022) - Y/N
  7. Have you secured enough  storage capacity (central/facility level) (Insulin should be stored in a refrigerator at a temperature between 2°C – 8°C)
  8. Comments on storage capacity

Looking forward for the feedback on the above and will keep you updated on any progress.

Thank you and best regards,

Silviu
