Dear Ioulia,

I hope this e-mail finds you well.

Let me answer your concerns stated in the e-mail below.   As you’ve correctly stated the Health inspection was conducted by the Labour inspection unit and positive assessment sent to Ministry of Economy as per the procedure. I have checked with Ministry of Economy and received their confirmation that the case of Atlantic Group with positive assessment was sent to the Government for final decision making.

We hope that positive reply from Government will be received by the Atlantic Group shortly.

Kind regards,

Tamila Barkalaia

Dear Tamar,

I would like to share with you the latest information and an immediate concern regarding our biggest investor in Georgia, i.e. Atlantic Group. As you might know, the company had undergo the health inspection last Saturday and received only good comments on the system in place for workers protection. Have they met the requirements, still the company has not been informed about the final decision to reopen or not the plant.

They have been closed for nearly three weeks.

With my ambassador, we are informed that the company had a meeting today at the General Group Headquarters in France and we are worried they might decide to completely switch production to another country and temporarily close the production unit in Kutaïssi. I fear that this might considerably weaken the production unit which has been a great promotor of Georgia business-friendly policies.

Do you think it could be possible to accelerate the green light so that they receive it very quickly, or at least concrete insurance that they will be allowed to reopen in a couple of days ?

With warmest regards,

Ioulia

Dear Beka,

Thank you very much for this detailed and clear reply. Group Atlantic, who has already filled the official request on the website of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development (MOESD)(www.economy.ge),  is operating in the Free zone in Kutaisi and will wait for the decision.

Please allow me two more questions:

1-      who in Imereti (Kutaissi) would be in charge of conducting the appropriate inspection ?

2-      what is the anticipated timeframe for the inspection and relative decision to grant the right to operate to the company in case of enforcement of all the rules ?

very best.

Ioulia
