📍 Labor After Lockdown: Armenia and Georgia

Labor markets in the South Caucasus are very sensitive to the Covid-19 pandemic. Thousands of workers have already lost their jobs. The pandemic underlined many loopholes of labor legislations and the asymmetry of power in labor relations․ The pandemic also sped up the process of digitalization, which means there are new challenges ahead for people and governments. How will the South Caucasus countries respond to these challenges?

In order to tackle these issues Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung South Caucasus takes an initiative to organize a series of ZOOM webinars “Responding to Covid-19: Social and Economic Policies in the South Caucasus” to discuss the economic and social measures implemented during the crisis and the future of labor with experts from the South Caucasus region.

Main issues the speakers will address in their inputs are:

⭕️How does Covid-19 affect the labor markets regarding unemployment, wages and social protection of workers?

⭕️ What do governments do to create jobs or help people retain their jobs?

⭕️ Is the crisis an opportunity for structural change on the labor markets? How can Armenia and Georgia respond to the challenges of digitalization?
