Dear Deputy Minister Barkalaia,
I hope this email finds you safe and well. During these times, I would like to congratulate you on the proactive and efficient response that has been taken by the Government of Georgia and the Ministry. As the country starts to approach
a time where the COVID-19 restrictions may be lifted, and some processes will be able to move forward, we would like to follow-up with you regarding the reform of the Labour Code that was planned for 2020.
We were in touch with the Parliament in late March 2020, and provided the attached document as inputs to the draft of the Labour Code that was shared on 09 March 2020. We are therefore sharing with you also our comments and suggestions
to that draft. Furthermore, we would like to follow-up with you on the anticipated next steps for the Labour Code reform. We understand that things are changing on a daily basis and that there are many uncertainties in the current context, however, we would
greatly appreciate any insight on the current thinking of how the reform will proceed. We stand ready to work with the Ministry to further refine the advanced draft prior to submission to Parliament for final approval.
Once again, we thank you and the Ministry for the partnership with UN Women and we hope, in the near future, to advance discussion on other areas of our partnership.
Thanks,
Mehjabeen
