Dear Jurate,

As you are aware, Georgia works on sophistication of Organic Law of Georgia “Georgian Labour Code” by introducing international labour standards into Georgian labour market.

There are 14 EU directives under Annex XXX related to labour law/labour rights and three of them are already transposed and amendments adopted by the Parliament (February 19, 2019). Current legislative package is prepared based on other directives and envisage various issues and it is comprehensive.

The topics that are being addressed are as follows:

·         Principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment - provision on equal pay for work of equal value is introduced;

·         Working time regulation (weekly rest time, etc.) , including overtime and increased remuneration for overtime;

·         Part-time and fixed-term work;

·         Transfer of undertakings;

·         Internship and protection of rights of interns;

·         Guarantees for employees in case of collective redundancies, consultations between parties, etc.

·         Introducing higher standards of maternity leave and introducing paternity and parental leave, etc.

In order for you to see the legislative package and considering the fact that the initiator of the package is the Parliament of Georgia, I am cc’ing the Member of Parliament Mr. Dimitri Tskitishvili.

Yours faithfully,

Lika

Dear Lika,

A brief of changes would be great!

If you could attach also amendments in Georgia, in case of any questions from Brussels colleagues we could look at specific chapters.

Best regards,

Jurate

Dear Jurate,

Unfortunately, I don't have amendments in English. I could make a brief in general if it's okay for you.

Regards,

Lika

Dear Lika,

I am sorry to bother you during your absence, but as you will be back in the office, could you please share more information on the suggested changes to the Labour Code that were discussed with the social partners. We, EUD, need to be on the same page at least with the NGOs as they are contacting us and try to discuss the changes of which we are not aware. So, please help. It would be sufficient if we have the same information that you have provided to the social partners. If you have the draft amendments, that would also be great.

Best regards,

Jurate
