Dear Tamuna,
I hope you are still keeping afloat during these times.
As the COVID-19 pandemic has affected most countries around the world, micro-enterprises and informal workers have found to be the most vulnerable. Studies show that the crisis has affected informal workers in
multiple ways. From one side, informal workers often work in economic activities that are susceptible to high risk of infection as they are engaged in workplaces that have limited access to hygiene and precautionary measures. On the other side, they are more
likely to lose their jobs and source of income as a result of the economic stagnation, as well as the challenges of implementing targeted social assistance programmes for informal workers.
Since the development of sustainable enterprises is one of the ILO project’s objectives, I would like to propose to the Ministry organizing a training programme on “Formalizing the Informal Sector in Georgia”.
The training will be online and consist of presentations by ILO experts on the global best practices and policies on formalization, followed by a discussion. The training aims to build the national capacities on formulating policy responses to informality
in Georgia.
If you agree with us on the importance of this capacity-building activity, we could organize the training in the second half of June and invite participants from the Ministry, legal entities, social partners,
and participants from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. Please feel free to propose other participants as well.
I look forward to hearing your feedback on the proposal.
Best regards,
►
