Dear Maia,

Many thanks for your interest in this activity. In case Josefita did not already tell you or you have seen this, the deadline for applications has been extended until the end of this week. So, there is still a bit of time to take care of the remaining paper work.

By the way, I will be flying to Tbilisi tonight where we are organizing a national workshop on Georgia's patent law together with colleagues from Sakpatenti, with a particular focus on compulsory licensing and how this relates to public health.

In case that any of your candidates are attending the workshop this week, it would be nice if they could contact me in order to establish some initial contacts.

Best regards, Roger

Dear colleagues,

Please, find below information on the workshop on trade and public health. We cannot provide any financial support, but WTO can.

I am forwarding you an invitation of the World Trade Organization to nominate candidates for a five-day workshop on Trade and Public Health that is open to government officials with a background in trade, intellectual property or public health. The workshop is organized by the WTO Secretariat in close collaboration with the Secretariats of WHO and WIPO from 8 - 12 October 2018 in Geneva. WTO provides financial support to participants. The attached invitation package contains the preliminary draft programme and the application form. The workshop deals with the intersection between trade, intellectual property and public health and aims at increasing the understanding of these overlapping policy fields. We encourage you to disseminate this information within your regions, as WTO welcomes very much applications from staff of Ministries of Health/health agencies.

Candidates need to duly complete and submit the online application form which is available at https://wto.formstack.com/forms/trade_and_public_health_workshop.  Upon submission, the candidate will receive a confirmation email that needs to be forwarded to the respective Permanent Mission/Embassy for validation. The Permanent Mission/Embassy needs to validate candidates in writing. Validations are to be sent to:  logistics.unit@wto.org

Deadline for submission of candidacies, both online applications and validations is  FRIDAY, 8 JUNE 2018.

For further information, please see the attached documents. If you have questions, please contact either Josefita Pardo de Leon (josefita.pardodeleon@wto.org).
