Subject: Polish Embassy's request for assistance regarding re-export of medicines to Azerbaijan
Dear Minister,
Let me express my appreciation of the efforts of your Ministry and the Georgian Government in this difficult time and assure you of our solidarity, as both our countries are struggling with Covid-19 pandemic.
I understand that one of the measures introduced recently by the Government has been a restriction of export and re-export of medical and pharmaceutical products. In this context, our Embassy has been contacted by company Ambiance LLC, which is exporting Polish medicines via Georgia to Azerbaijan. The company is now, as we were told, unable to continue with its activities without Government’s special permit. The issue is timely, as the medicines which company intends to re-export to Azerbaijan have expiration date, and the shipment, which is currently stored in Georgia, is of considerable value (ca. 400 000 USD, according to the company).
I fully appreciate the reasoning behind the recently introduced re-export restrictions. However, as far as I understand the medicines in question are not of a type that could be potentially used in Covid-19 treatment. Moreover, as the company explains, this particular shipment cannot be sold to Georgian market, as the exclusive distribution rights to these products belong to other distributor.
As the ongoing pandemic will surely have severe economic impact as well, it is all the more important that we can continue to expand our trade cooperation. I am also proud that Poland and Georgia have recently decided to intensify their cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical supervision, with the upcoming signing of Cooperation Agreement between the Georgian Regulation Agency for Medical and Pharmaceutical Activities and the Polish Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate.
It is in this spirit that I would be extremely grateful you for your kind assistance in issuing an appropriate permit for the re-export of Polish medicines by the Ambiance LLC. For your reference, I enclose a letter sent by the company to your Government and a list of products in question.
Yours sincerely,
Mariusz Maszkiewicz
