ESWI Young Scientist Best Body of Work Award goes to Dr. Robert de Vries

 

 

The fifth edition of ESWI’s Best Body of Work Award goes to Dr. Robert de Vries, University of Utrecht, The Netherlands for his substantial and impressive accomplishments to date in the field of understanding influenza virus dynamics.

 

ESWI Young Scientist Innovative Award goes to Dr. Kirsty Short 
with the support of Seqirus

 

 

Dr. Kirsty Short, University of Queensland, Australia, has been selected as the first recipient of  the Young Scientist Innovative Award, a research grant awarded to a promising young scientist for the most innovative research in vaccine development. 

Both Dr. de Vries and Dr. Short will receive their award during the Young Scientists Plenary session on Wednesday September 16, 2020 at the upcoming 7th ESWI Influenza Conference in Valencia. They will also both be invited to give a keynote lecture at the conference.

Considering one of ESWI’s objectives is to stimulate the careers of promising young scientists, several of the other applicants have been invited to co-chair a scientific session at the 2020 Valencia Conference.

Towards influenza vaccination programmes for health care professionals

 

The question at the centre of the summit was "Why is it so difficult to achieve influenza vaccine uptake levels in healthcare workers that would reduce or eliminate the risk of transmitting the disease?” Experts from various fields took the stage at this interesting and animated gathering.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Influenza Diabetes community Commitment Paper

 

 

The Influenza Diabetes community is a joint partnership of leading diabetes and healthcare professional organizations, and ESWI to better protect people with diabetes against influenza. The IDC community commitment paper represents a first but important step.  

The IDC community will be present at the 7th ESWI Influenza Conference in Valencia with a satellite symposium on Influenza in persons living with diabetes: pathogenesis and prevention.
